Time to pop the kettle on and settle in. I’ve got a great story for you about our recent family trek around the country visiting our favourite Get Farmed! farmers.
It started with an enthusiastic family setting off and ended with a drugged up daughter and a bogged farm truck…
I love the opportunity to get our and visit our farmer suppliers. So I decided to combine a family holiday with a working visit to some of our great farm suppliers across the country. My husband, being from good country stock, has his pilot’s license and loves any excuse to go for a fly. So no sooner had the idea left my mouth than flight plans and maps were out and being poured over.
It may sound very romantic to have a husband who is a pilot, but when you take into account teenage children, ourselves and our luggage squashed into a light plane, then things are maybe not so rosy.
That’s before our daughter realised that travel sickness hits at 5000ft, not just in the car. So out came the Quells (Always prepared!).
So once she was suitably medicated, things settled down a little and despite the snoring from the back seat competing with the propellers, we flew over some of the most beautiful Australian country.
I had us booked into a farm stay, literally out the back of Bourke, for a couple of days break from travelling. Where else would the Get Farmed! family stay?
Things were going great, we were getting some good country air, the husband was happy and my daughter was recovering from her Quells induced daze. Until someone in the family, more than likely one of the male variety, suggested we should explore a little further.
Having a chat to our ever hospitable host, a plan was hatched that involved borrowing the farm truck for the afternoon.
Needless to say the two way came in handy and a couple of hours later we were free.

The family love a good Anzac biscuit and this is my trusty, go-to recipe for a quick batch for lunches or after school snacks.
• 1 1/4 cups plain flour
• 1 cup Get Farmed! Porridge Oats
• 1/2 cup caster sugar
• 3/4 cup desiccated coconut
• 150g unsalted butter, chopped
• 2 tbsp golden syrup
• 1 1/2 tsp water
• 1/2 tsp bi carb soda
Preheat the oven to 170°C. Combine the flour, oats, sugar and coconut in a large bowl. In a small saucepan, gently melt together the golden syrup and butter over a low heat. Remove the golden syrup mixture from the heat and mix tother the bicarb soda and water and add to the golden syrup mixture. It will bubble up, while you are stirring. Add slowly to the dry ingredients and mix together until fully combined. Roll tablespoons of the mixture into balls and place on a line baking tray, pressing down slightly with your fingers to flatten. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes until golden brown.
Like you Anzacs softer? Leave on the tray to cool, or if you prefer a crispier biscuit, allow to cool slightly and when able to handle move to a cooling rack using a spatula.
